Legal Executive/Senior Legal Executive (Contracts Management, LNG, Oil and Gas)
Our client is a Japanese oil and gas trading company that is expanding its operations in Singapore rapidly and is seeking a Legal Executive to join their company to support the General Manager in charge of Risk Manager, Legal and Compliance.
Job Description:
- Handling, reviewing, drafting, and assisting the execution of contracts for:
- Sales and Purchase of natural resources such as LNG;
- Derivative transaction based on ISDA;
- Time Charter Party for LNG Ship; and
- any related matters thereof. - Preparing any necessary documentation for implementing each transaction above
(e.g. KYC documents, invoices, internal decision-making documents, and any related works thereof). - Supporting and implementing legal and compliance efforts for the company and promoting an ethical and legally compliant business culture. Partnering with the business, management, and employees to achieve desired compliance results.
(e.g., research current compliance issues in the relevant market by compiling such information, hold and lead internal compliance discussion, support drafting compliance plan and/or procedure and any related works.) - Assisting research of a broad range of laws and regulations in Singapore affecting the operations of the company including those arising from corporate structures and business models
- Assisting the legal works of the senior members including developing legal strategies and solutions, often in situations of high risk with limited time for assessing alternatives by necessary research, idea or relevant documentation
- Supporting, collaborating, supervising and coordinating legal work sent to external law firms
- Assisting in internal investigations and making related recommendations to the relevant committees for consequences of potential non-compliance based on facts identified through the investigation process
- Understand the risks around energy trading transactions including market risk, credit risk, operational risk etc
- Understand our Mid-Term Plan to expand the energy trading with the risk management framework authorised by the Parent Company
- Assist in and liaise with the corporate secretary on corporate secretarial matters
- Any other ad-hoc assignments
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in law, legal studies or equivalent
- Experience in handling contracts and documentation for trading, sales and purchase of commodities and transactions of international commodities (eg. oil, gas, LNG, etc) for at least 2-3 years in the LNG or oil and gas markets is highly preferred
- Good knowledge of Singapore law is A MUST
- Experience handling contract reviews, drafting, and negotiation, especially for contracts described in Scope 1, is preferred
- Working experience in a Japanese company is highly advantageous
- Excellent written and spoken English. Proficiency in Japanese and/or any Asian language to liaise with Japanese-speaking counterparts and stakeholders is advantageous but not essential
- Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills
- Sophisticated communication and working in a cross-functional team to achieve common goals
- Capable to identify and escalate issues timely and appropriately, and to prioritize and respond to business needs and goals; Sense of urgency, time priority, and accountability
- Understanding the electricity market in Japan and LNG inventory operation by Japanese utility companies is advantageous
- Be respectful to colleagues, internal and external stakeholders and be inclusive in a multicultural work environment
- Honesty and a high level of integrity
- Ability to develop process-driven solutions to recurring issues is advantageous
