Store Assistant is responsible for managing and organizing inventory within a warehouse or storage facility. The primary focus is on maintaining accurate stock levels, overseeing incoming and outgoing stores, and ensuring the overall efficiency of the storage area.

The Store Assistant is a key player in maintaining an organized and efficient store, ensuring that goods are stored, handled, and distributed appropriately. The role requires a combination of organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Inventory Management:

  • Receive, inspect, and record incoming goods.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels using manual or computerized systems.
  • Regularly conduct physical inventory checks to reconcile discrepancies.

2. Stock Organization:

  • Organize and arrange stock within the warehouse for easy access and retrieval.
  • Implement efficient storage solutions to maximize available space.

3. Order Fulfilment:

  • Pick and pack items for outgoing orders.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to fulfil internal and external orders in a timely manner.

4. Receiving and Issuing:

  • Prepare stores for dispatch, ensuring proper packaging and labelling.
  • Coordinate with requesters and donors for timely deliveries and pickups.

5. Quality Control:

  • Inspect incoming and outgoing goods for quality and quantity.
  • Report and document any damaged or defective items.

6. Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions, including receipts, issues, and returns.
  • Generate and update reports on inventory levels and movements.

7. Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Participate in regular safety training and drills.

8. Equipment Maintenance:

  • Monitor and report any issues with warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts) and coordinate maintenance as needed.

9. Communication:

  • Collaborate with purchasing, and other relevant departments to coordinate inventory needs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management.

10. Problem Solving:

  • Address and resolve inventory discrepancies or issues promptly.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Secondary School or equivalent; additional education or training in logistics or warehouse management is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Store Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with inventory management software and systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in a warehouse setting.
