Our client is actively searching for a Senior Manager, Lab Safety to join their team!

Reporting to the Team Lead of Lab Safety, the incumbent will support the Division in maintaining an operationally safe and healthy environment for all lab users.

The Team currently manages 108 teaching laboratories. The incumbent will support the development of the Lab Safety culture within the unit and amongst lab users, there is need to establish an effective Lab Safety & Health Management system.

The additional manpower aims to support the Division in developing and implementing standards beyond regulatory compliances.



Job Responsibilities

  • Establish and ensure laboratory safety management framework and safety measures in laboratories are aligned with institutional policies and broad framework.
  • Be the custodian for POD laboratory safety and health management documentation and process.
  • Respond and coordinate emergency response activations from laboratories with other departments or divisions.
  • Provide expert advice in high-risk areas such as Control of Hazardous Energy, Management of Hazardous Substances, Management of Change, Radiation Safety.
  • Provide advice to ensure risk assessments are completed and approved according to internal process.
  • Monitor corrective and preventive action implementations in the Division.
  • Proactive in instilling good safety culture, mindsets and practices in the workplace.
  • To plan and drive programmes and initiatives to deliver POD’s safety & health strategies and goals.
  • Ability to analyse and identify risk reduction projects that help mitigate risk and deliver excellence in Safety & Health.
  • Present updates on emergent or changes to relevant legislations related to IHL / laboratory safety, health and environment matters.
  • Perform trend analysis and reports on safety performances.
  • Assist in annual safety plans in terms of budgeting, improvement projects and resources management.

The ideal candidate will need to have the following qualities and experience:

  • MOM registered WSHO with at least 8 years of relevant experience in Workplace Safety and Health, supported with qualifications of Engineering, Science, Technology or Human Factors.
  • Possess strong knowledge of laboratory safety as reflected by qualifications and continuous training.
  • Have a strong focus on safety design implementation for diverse laboratory-related projects, including laboratory set-up and operations.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of regulations and Acts pertaining to safety, health, and environmental protection management, particularly pertaining to laboratories.
  • Able to implement and assess occupational health and safety compliance programmes, particularly pertaining to laboratories.
