Vehicle Operation:
You would be responsible for operating and driving the rubbish truck safely and efficiently. This involves understanding the vehicle's controls, ensuring proper maintenance and regular inspections, and following all traffic rules and regulations.
Waste Collection: Your primary task would be to collect and transport rubbish from designated locations such as residential areas, commercial buildings, or public spaces. You would need to navigate the designated routes, make scheduled stops, and load the rubbish onto the truck using appropriate equipment like bins, loaders, or hydraulic lifts.
Route Planning: Efficient route planning is crucial to ensure timely rubbish collection. You may be required to review and adjust routes based on factors like traffic conditions, road closures, or changes in the collection schedule. Effective time management and adherence to the assigned route are important for meeting collection targets.
Health and Safety: As a rubbish truck driver, you would need to follow strict health and safety guidelines. This includes using personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety boots, and reflective vests, especially during the handling of potentially hazardous waste. You should also maintain a clean and safe work environment in and around the truck.
Communication and Documentation: Good communication skills are important as you may need to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and members of the public. You may be required to maintain records of the collected rubbish, report any issues or incidents, and follow specific protocols for documentation, such as recording weights or volumes of waste collected.
Vehicle Maintenance: While you may not be directly responsible for the maintenance of the rubbish truck, you should perform basic vehicle checks and report any mechanical issues or defects to the appropriate authorities. This ensures that the truck is in optimal condition and reduces the chances of breakdowns or accidents.it's possible that you may be required to work on public holidays.
