Specific Accountabilities:


Lead the Solutions & Engineering Team to Support New & Existing Business Solution Demands


Fundamentally Leading the execution of the Solution & Engineering Design workstream with steps and deliverables as defined in detail within Business Unit SOP - Contract Logistics Delivery Method (CLDM) and as summarised here.

  • Identify, Design and Implement Solution & Engineering Standards, Processes, Tools and Templates aligned to Global/Regional SE Initiatives to enable and support efficiencies in SE across APAC to:


  • Work closely with the regional Head of Resource Development & Planning to Qualify and prioritise projects and resource allocation. Also, to ensure all team members have a robust development plan that facilitates their progression through the SE competency model and that they meet the requirements of the SE position and the market supported.
    • Establish and ensure optimal Solution Concept in alignment with the customers’ needs and operating characteristics and to our established Core Products standards and Best Practices.
    • Clearly articulate the key components of the Supply Chain in scope and present material flow to enable logical design decisions.
    • Improve the efficiency of data analysis and interpretation of customer’s data to recommend suitable storage system(s), material handling equipment (MHE), processes and resources and technologies (inc automation and robotics)
    • Collaborate with GREM team to identify the most suitable & efficient warehouses, and design layout based on customer business requirements utilising the software provided.
    • Facilitate timely collaborate with operations teams and other functions to identify proactive engineering activities that drive operational efficiencies within our existing customer operations. This includes proactive identification and support for Customer Renewals where engineering methodologies can be utilised to identify, design and implement process improvements (including technology applications) in all aspects of warehousing activities including VAS.
    • Ensure necessary reviews including peer reviews, operations review as well as supporting deal reviews for validations/challenges of key cost/risk drivers within the response and solution modelling against the projects’ requirements in order to drive optimum offerings in accordance to customers’ expectations.
    • Conduct analysis, propose, and implement improvements on unsuccessful tenders and projects with negative Quality results as necessary.
    • Leverage lessons learnt sessions from operations and implementations to drive continuous improvement in Solution Engineering workstreams at the front end of the process to avoid/reduce the number of loss-making operations in APAC.
    • Develop high end solutions from improved awareness and understanding of innovative concepts utilising the latest available and accepted technology (including automation, robotics).
    • Align with APAC/Global Contract Logistics objectives and targets, collaborate with APAC RDL, VP of Solution Design & Engineering APAC, Global Solution Design Leadership, and other regional functional leads for overall direction to identify and address development areas for the Solution Design community to improve the quality, efficiency, and performance of Solution Design.
    • Ownership of the SE steps within (CLDM) Contract Logistics Delivery Method for APAC, inclusive of all associated tools, templates, standards, and processes. Guide the SE team resources to ensure awareness and compliance. Ensure teams Work within the defined Standard Work Framework for Solution Design and Engineering APAC, to ensure efficient solution design process and aligned to the key steps and milestones represented in CLDM.
    • Support the implementation, development of a Standard Tools for calculations. Ensuring that all SE team members are conversant, competent, and compliant in its usage.
    • Support the maintenance and dissemination of all Onboarding material for Solution Design resources joining the APAC SD Community, ensuring a high standard of quality and relevance to current business dynamics and the role of Solution Engineering within the organization.
    • Liaise with business leadership including but not limited to those responsible for Commercial Management (Business Development & Customer Management), Innovation & Automation, Operations Excellence to develop and deliver engagement programs for the SE community, ensuring they are kept up to date with the latest and relevant technology trends, innovation, and automation as well as dissemination of vital lessons learnt from implementations to ensure Continuous Improvement.
    • Act as focal point for the designated SE team to ensure all initiatives derived from Head office, Global Solution Engineering to ensure APAC SD Community are represented correctly and that the needs and dynamics of SE APAC are fully understood and integrated all improvement plans, standards, procedures, and tools.
    • Support and be an ambassador of the Solution Engineering Community including the identification of SE subject matter networks regionally and globally.
    • Support development and completion of transparent Peer Reviews across Solution Design APAC, encouraging SE resources to work maturely and in a transparent and collaborative manner – One Team One Goal.


Commercial & Pricing


Maintain information and business intelligence to support the Solution Design community and internal teams during Tender Management phase to deliver cost competitive and viable solutions, to ensure profitability and/or the recovery of all project and operation costs.


Lead and support the Solution engineering teams, to deliver improvements to the commercial and pricing aspects of the SE workstream across APAC, enabling SE to

  • Better determine and compare costings required for the proposed solution via key personnel/team within country organization, existing vendor contacts and/or direct sourcing.
  • Develop costing and support/determine selling rates in accordance with customer pricing template.
  • Ensure projected revenue in the cost models meet the targeted MIRR (Modified Internal Rate of Return) and EBIT (Earnings Before Interest and Tax).
  • Validate and review cost models with key stakeholders based on design assumptions and proposed terms and conditions and advise them on the potential business risk.
  • When required support the preparation of financial justifications and investment applications for new logistics program start up to obtain management approval.
  • Support the Sales and BD team in the development of negotiation strategy, Win Plan and value proposition with supporting assessments and calculations.


Coaching & Training


Working with the RDL to identify, design and deliver effective training plans Work with RDL to establish a transparent and accurate SD Capability & Skills matrix. Translate into the delivery of effective training plans and initiatives, aligned both to the individual’s personal development needs as well as the needs of the business requirements of Solution Design. Support a systematic training and coaching approach to systematically drive resources to the higher level of competencies and expertise within suitable and achievable timeframes.


This also includes:

  • Ensuring all SE resources are onboarded as per the “standard” requirements defined by RDP.
  • The definition and facilitation of training to achieve the required core SE competency and capacities.
  • Supporting & participating a systematic process to drive advancement and expertise for SE resources, including but not limited to the development of Individual Development Plan (IDP) for self & teammates identifying personal development and alignment to business needs.


Qualifications:

  • Experience in modern warehouse and distribution, supply chain design (automation and other modern warehousing innovation (robotics, digitalisation) is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business Management or relevant technical field.
  • More than 10 years of relevant working experience in the logistics and supply chain industry; knowledge of 3PL, 4PL and LLP variations is a plus.
  • Experiences in Project Management (PMP Certified) and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies (Green or Black Belt) are added advantages.
  • Strong and in-depth knowledge in warehouse solution design and supply chain network design; able to develop operationally feasible solution(s) to meet customer requirements.
  • Good command in spoken and written English; other Asian/European language(s) is beneficial.
  • Excellent organisation and coaching skills.
  • Self-starter with positive attitude to overcome problems effectively and able to work under own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Distinctive intercultural competency: able to communicate with all levels of the organisation, work as a team and build strong rapport and credibility both internally (country organisation, regional and global offices) and externally (customers and vendors).
  • Possess strong persuasive skills when presenting the proposed solution(s) to the customer.
  • Require hands-on approach, able to multi-task and work under time pressure.
  • Strong analytical skills with good commercial and technical understanding of CL.
  • Practical working experience with AutoCAD, CLASS, Sketchup and/or other supply chain design software/tools is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel functions – VBA/VLOOKUP/PivotTable, and PowerPoint, etc), and knowledge about other Microsoft 365 Apps including but not limited VISIO/Stream/Power BI is a plus.
  • Able to travel overseas on project basis (20%).
