To establish an electronic magazine that collects Chinese sci-fi short stories from China and translates them into English for supply in the English market.
Responsibilities:
- Collect Chinese sci-fi short stories from various sources in China, negotiate with rights holders, and acquire new content.
- Find suitable translators to translate selected stories into English with accuracy, consistency, and style.
- Work with the editorial team to ensure translated content meets publication standards.
- Build connections and maintain relationships with Chinese sci-fi authors and publishers, as well as English publishers interested in sci-fi works.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the Chinese science fiction community.
- Develop marketing strategies to promote the e-magazine, utilizing experience in digital marketing, social media management, and email campaigns.
- Manage the website and online presence of the e-magazine, utilizing experience in web design, SEO, and content management systems.
Requirements:
- Extremely fluent in both Chinese and English.
- With at least three years of publishing experience in the science fiction and fantasy fields.
- With good to extensive contacts with science fiction and fantasy publishers and writers in both Chinese and English.
- Experience in running competitions on science fiction and fantasy writings in both Chinese and English.
- Understanding and have experience in both Chinese and Western cultures and have lived in both China and the western world (UK, US), minimum period of one year each.
- Able to translate science fiction and fantasy writings from Chinese to English and vice versa (need to show proof, preferably published articles).
- Understanding and able to follow the progress of scientific and technological changes in both China and the West.
- Minimum academic achievement - a master’s degree from a recognised institution.
- Have worked in fields related to science fiction and fantasy movies and TV series. (10) Have experience in hosting bilingual events.
- Have experience in both print and digital publishing.
