Senior Economist (Market Administration)

The senior economist is part of a team that plays a key role in the evolution and development

of Singapore’s wholesale electricity market for efficiency gains. The successful applicant is expected to

assist the team leads and management primarily in making rule changes. This involves designing market

solutions and covers the implementation, development, and operational aspects of the changes.


Responsibilities


Analytical and secretarial support for Rule Change Panel

  • Critically analyze the National Electricity Market of Singapore (NEMS) to identify areas of inefficiency and initiate improvements that reduce or eliminate them.
  • Manage and present rule change proposals to the Rules Change Panel, the EMC Board and the Authority.


Handing of registration of Market Participants and ad-hoc participation requirements

Facilitate participation in the market by being the liaison between market participants and

internal departments on:

  • Registration of Market Participants (MPs) and Facilities
  • Ad‐hoc queries on participation requirements


Other duties

  • Conduct industrial training on electricity markets and promote knowledge building on the
  • electricity market for the industry
  • Assist the Energy Market Modelling team in short-term and long-term market modelling using
  • Plexos
  • Assist the team leads in though-leadership activities


Requirement:

  • A good degree in economics or equivalent from a reputable university
  • An analytical mindset with innovation, problem solving, influential writing and communication skills.
  • Attention to details and the ability to identify and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Good overall understanding of operational, financial, and legal concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of and interest in domestic and/or international electricity markets at both operational and/or policy level.
  • Knowledge of emerging areas in the wider energy landscape such as Renewable Energy
  • Certificates (REC), Carbon Trading is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of energy modelling software (Plexos) and linear programming is an added advantage
