Job Purpose

You are required to provide underwriting support within the risk management framework of GELS prescribed guidelines, for individual life product lines (especially High Net Worth products like Universal Life, Whole Life Multiplier, and Investment Linked Plans).


The Job 

  • Provide underwriting due diligence on new applications, within the prescribed guidelines by GELS and Reinsurance partners
  • Identify risks and apply best underwriting practices in line with the industry standard
  • Provide competitive, yet risk appropriate underwriting advice and market leading underwriting services
  • Provide critical liaison and build strong business relationship with external stakeholders like distribution channels (Agency, Bancassurance & Brokers) and Reinsurers, and with internal stakeholders like HNW Business Management team, Group Risk Management, AML & Compliance, Products and Actuarial teams
  • Proactively seek for HNW process improvement and instill a culture of customer-first approach
  • Ensure timely and adequate support for business including training for distribution channels
  • Support in the reviewing and updating underwriting guidelines for High Net Worth products
  • Project management, for example to review and streamline work processes to support business operations, prepare SOPs, review forms etc
  • Provide underwriting support for post-issue and post-claims underwriting
  • Takes accountability in considering business and regulatory compliance risks and takes appropriate steps to mitigate the risks
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies in order to understand the risk and better safeguard the company
  • Highlights any potential concerns /risks and proactively shares best risk management practices


Our Requirements

  • Degree with minimum 10 years of solid experience in underwriting Life, Disability, Critical illness, Accident and Health risks, with at least 5 years of High Net Worth underwriting experience
  • Proficiency in Mandarin as candidate is expected to read & interpret medical reports in Chinese language
  • Leadership ability, team player, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, problem solving skills and business acumen
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of integrity, takes accountability of work and good attitude over teamwork
  • Takes initiative to improve current state of things and adaptable to embrace new changes
