Job Purpose:
The psychologist is expected to provide a full range of evidence-based and best practices in psychological services to students including conduct psychological assessments, deliver interventions and manage crisis situations. You are also function as a member of the allied professional team to collaborate with stakeholders, maintain professional and ethical standards, undertake research and continuous improvement and uplift professional practice of psychology in education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group services to students that emphasize improved educational performance and/ or conduct.
- Screen and evaluate referred students including selecting appropriate instruments, administering tests, observations, and writing reports which state the evaluation findings and provide for educational programme recommendations.
- Participate as a member of the inter-disciplinary team and the individualized education (IEP) and individualized transition planning (ITP) committee contributing evaluation findings and collaborating on the implementation of students' ITP.
- Provide collaborative consultation and documentation of results including assisting basic education staff with suggestions and implementation of remedial programme, pre-referral intervention strategies, and provided recommendations and modifications to assist basic education staff in working with special education students in the classroom setting.
- Consult parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff regarding the student’s programme and any adaptations/ materials needed to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
- Provide direct services through a variety of methods (e.g. classroom presentations, co-teaching in general education settings, in-serices to staff/ parents, etc.) as needed.
- Maintain accurate data on students to document current levels of performance and other pertinent information. Re-evaluate, as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy.
- Establish and monitor the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school psychologist services to students/ staff and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals of the IEP.
- Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules and regulations governing special education programmes set by APSN.
- Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/ educational research to enhance therapy services.
- Conduct standardized assessments for students in Tanglin School, and other APSN schools and Centre for Adults, if necessary, which may include intelligence testing and adaptive behavioural functioning, and contribute to the assessment of other development disabilities (e.g. ASD, ADHD).
Job Requirements:
- Possess a Masters in Applied Psychology/ Clinical Psychology from an accredited university and be registered/eligible for registration with SRP or an equivalent professional body.
- Possess a minimum of 2-3 years of work related experience with relevant exposure in the area of intellectual disability or other related disabilities.
- Good communication, team work, and interpersonal skills
- Passionate for working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Clarity and organised thought processes with good verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Proven experience in clinical setting, counselling practices, scientific research, teaching, and well-versed in occupational and educational psychology
Job Requirements:
Technical Competencies
- Possesses a Master in Educational, Counselling or Clinical Psychology from an accredited university.
- Eligible for registration with the Singapore Register of Psychologists.
