The Head of Data is the business and technical owner for the end-to-end management and use of data in SPH Media, including the architecture, governance, collection, analysis, and strategic use of data to drive business value.
Responsibilities:
The scope of responsibilities includes the following:
- Assume ownership of the data teams, bringing together the data engineering, audience, and data governance team.
- Evolve our data strategy and evangelise the use of data for decision making to achieve key business outcomes.
- Help to develop and enforce guidelines for the collection, storage, management, documentation, quality, and protection of data.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the company’s data lake and make use of existing data assets to generate business insights, visualise information, and solve problems.
- Identify opportunities to enrich data by supplementing or fusing it with data from partnerships or other external sources.
- Take a proactive approach to help business heads seek out new revenue opportunities (increase readership, subscriptions, advertisement and new services) through more effective and creative use of data.
- Drive experimental data modelling designs within the business. Run A/B tests in order to evaluate changes in the business’s products and services.
- Track business performance against data analysis models and monitor trends in key business KPIs, providing valuable insights to relevant departments for overall business performance improvement.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- More than 10 years of business experience and at least 5 years in senior management role
- Proven track record in data/big data management, leadership, leading data teams and projects. Experience in building data lakes and end-to-end deployment of data science models will be a plus.
- Strong background in business, mathematics, or data science and analytics is a must
- Background in media, marketing or consumer businesses will be an advantage
- Knowledge and use of BI best practices/methodologies, including reporting tools, querying tools, data analytics methodologies, and data visualisation.
Required Competencies
- Experience with SQL and reporting techniques with proficiency in data analytics tools (R and/or Python)
- Hands-on experience with BigData technologies such as Spark, ProtoBuf, DBT etc.
- Experience with AWS, and with tools such as AirFlow, Kafka, Docker & Kubernetes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Team-builder, results-oriented, proactive and self-driven.
- Creative and strategic thinker, innovative problem-solving skills, and highly organised.
- Ability to handle multiple simultaneous tasks, prioritise and meet tight deadlines, and demonstrate calmness in times of uncertainty and stress.
