Oogachaga is Singapore’s most established LGBTQ+ community organisation, working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer and gender-diverse (LGBTQ+) individuals, couples and families since 1999.
This is a newly-created position that offers an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to work with and support family members, in particular parents, with LGBTQ+ relatives.
We are looking for someone who is highly self-motivated and passionate about supporting and empowering all family members, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Ideally, you should be professionally qualified with relevant experience in working with families, with a LGBTQ-affirming, strengths-based and systemic approach.
As an affirming and inclusive professional, non-profit community organisation, we encourage applications from qualified persons who identify as LGBTQ+ or allies, including those living with HIV and/ or with lived experiences of mental health issues, as well as members of minority communities.
Job Scope:
The successful candidate will be supporting and working directly with members of the LGBTQ+ community and their families.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Providing professional casework and counselling interventions for families with LGBTQ+ members, including adults and youth
- Identifying clients’ needs and connecting clients to appropriate community resources
- Developing, implementing and evaluating community outreach programmes
- Building partnerships with external stakeholders
- Working with volunteers
Job Requirements:
- Holding Singapore Citizenship or Permanent Residency
- Recognised Bachelor degree (or higher) in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology only
- Registration with the relevant professional association is preferred, but not required
- LGBTQ-affirming personal and professional stance
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and work independently in a diverse environment
- Added advantage if applicant has prior experience working with families and LGBTQ+ clients
