Primary Purpose of Role
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure commercially focused, practical legal advice is provided across a scope of work including corporate, financial services, (re) insurance broking, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and information technology matters, including the provision of strategic advice to the Gallagher Asia–Pac Executive team and the broader Gallagher group legal teams.
This role will be based in Singapore and will work with Gallagher’s other offices in Asia, including, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Philippines. This role will be responsible for working with the Head of Legal, Asia Pacific to assist key stakeholders across the business, including senior leaders and executive team members, Compliance, Risk and Assurance functions, the Human Resources team and broking services teams.
This role will be responsible for managing legal risk and providing commercial, practical and strategic advice to key stakeholders at all levels of seniority. The legal counsel will assist the business to proactively identify and respond to relevant legislative and regulatory change and advise on operational issues and strategic project work for the organisation.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist in negotiating and reviewing a variety of commercial contracts with third parties from inception/renewal through to execution
- Offer specialist and strategic legal advice to stakeholders on a wide range of matters
- Providing legal advice on employment law matters
- Providing merger & acquisition (M&A) transaction support, including negotiation of M&A transactions (as required) with assistance from external legal panel of firms
- Ensuring solid commercial management of dispute and litigation matters and legal briefs from the business with assistance from external legal panel of firms (where necessary), including appropriate escalation and reporting within the business
- Drafting new contract templates for the organisation
- Provide advice on changing legislation that is relevant to the business and proactively support the implementation of these changes across the business
- Effectively manage key stakeholder relationships with internal clients and external advisers in the evaluation, structuring, delivery and documentation of future business opportunities and services
- Ensuring that Gallagher remains fully informed and receptive to change by monitoring industry/market and legal trends and providing recommendations for change strategies

Qualifications & Education
- Qualified lawyer with PQE 10 years plus years tertiary qualifications in law
- Previous experience working within the insurance industry with (re) insurance broking experience advantageous
- Relevant experience with working with senior leaders and executive team members
- Relevant experience with working in an in-house legal environment
- Relevant experience with working with different jurisdictions
