Role
The role of a Job Coach is to design and develop specialised job scope to help students with special needs to cope and achieve their learning objectives. The Job Coach works closely with Teachers in shaping the Continuum of Work Experience, tailors meaningful Work Experience for students and provides critical learning and support during students’ Work Experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- In charge of designing and maintaining a continuum of Work Experience for the student profiles in the school
- In charge of sourcing potential community and industry partners to identify relevant work-based opportunities to meet student’s interests and aspirations
- Work closely with SPED teachers to co-plan and coordinate suitable work exposure activities for students as part of the Vocational Guidance curriculum
- Design, plan and coordinate work experiences in school, community and workplaces catering to students’ interests, preference and strengths, and working goals
- In charge of the administrative matters for students (i.e., insurance, work attachment allowances, and internships allowance).
- Collaborate with teachers and Allied Health Professionals in co-planning and co-delivering the VE content areas (i.e., vocational guidance, soft skills and hard skills) through the Continuum of Work Experience
- Identify suitable work experiences for students according to student’s interests, preferences and strengths in alignment with their Individual Transition Plans
- Develop and implement training plans for students on Work Experience covering the teaching of relevant soft and hard skills in alignment with the VE curriculum
- Instruct students on work-related skills, community living skills, problem-solving skills and Functional Literacy and Numeracy useful in a work place.
- Conduct ecological assessments of work sites to understand job demands and the work environments for effective planning of supports
- Accompany students for job interviews, orientation and job attachments. Provide on-site training as needed.
- Liaise with work site personnel to put in place appropriate job accommodations and modifications according to students’ profiles and needs
- Conduct regular assessment, monitoring and evaluation of students’ progress and performance at Work Experience using appropriate tools
- Share knowledge and insight on student’s interests, preferences and strengths, and work progress, at appropriate frequency to the VE Team to facilitate effective job coaching
- Provide feedback on students’ progress, key areas of strengths and needs to families at Transition Planning meetings and Multi-Agency Transition Meetings (MATM)
- Work with psychologist and occupational therapist to mediate and manage expectations of employers, students and parents regarding work-related issues.
- Obtain feedback from potential employers regarding the work performance of the student.
- Forge and sustain partnerships with community and businesses through creating awareness and capacity building in disability support
- Advocate for opportunities for students to practise their skills in authentic settings
- Perform any other duties as and when assigned by the School Principal.
REQUIREMENTS
- Recognized relevant Diploma/Degree.
- Prior experience in areas of vocational training, assessment or placement is highly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with various stakeholders
- Good team player with negotiation and problem solving skills.
- Relevant work experience in job placements
- Good computer knowledge and skills
