Applied Quantum Cryptography Researcher

JP Morgan Chase’s technology strategy and direction are strongly oriented towards investigation and research of emerging technologies, such as quantum technologies. Our firm is looking to recruit a researcher to perform research and development of novel solutions in quantum communications, cryptography, and information theory.


As an Applied Quantum Cryptography Researcher at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief Technology Office, Global Technology Applied Research Team you will work closely with internal project teams and external communities alike to advance these research focus areas in a way that is beneficial to the technical teams in the company. You will cultivate investigations into these areas, produce research solutions in collaboration with the internal project teams, and contribute to the firm’s intellectual property.


Job responsibilities:

• To provide novel research solutions to problems faced by internal project teams

• To advance the field of quantum communications and quantum cryptography (e.g., quantum key distribution and networks)

• To participate in technical partnerships with external organizations, such as academic institutions, government agencies, and leading technology firms

• To contribute to JPMC’s IP by pursuing necessary protections of generated IP

• Contribute to establishing JPMC’s reputation in the scientific field via publication of select results in prestigious venues


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

• PhD in quantum cryptography/communications or related domains

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Quantum Cryptography

• Proven track record in quantum research (e.g., publications in high-impact factor journals and active participation in leading conferences like QCRYPT and QIP)

• Hand on experience in designing and implementing digital circuits in FPGA.

• Profound knowledge and experience in designing secure quantum cryptography protocols beyond QKD.

• Ideally, the ability to write formal security proofs in the universal-composable security (UC/AC) framework.

• Ideally, experience developing external partnerships with diverse stakeholders, ranging from academia to private sector

• Experience in technical writing in a scientific or technical field, as well as grant applications or research proposals

• Working knowledge of semi-definite programming and numerical optimization techniques

• Strong passion, awareness and familiarity with emerging technology paradigms

• Excellent written and visual presentation skills

• Ability to represent the firm externally at academic and industry conferences as well as speaking engagements

• Ability to work through ambiguity and multiple priorities
