As a Fiber Delivery Engineer, Geographic Information System (GIS) on the Cloud Interconnection + Acquisitions (CI+A) Team you will contribute to building a world-class network infrastructure by working with Metro Dark Fiber, Long-Haul Fiber, subsea, and Lit Wave circuits. With a flexible workplace, you can work from home partially or fully and/or come to the office on an as needed basis.

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Fiber Delivery Engineer, GIS you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial team support, by offering technical expertise and drawings for the diversity, identification POE and internal routing to termination points.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date GIS data related to fiber network infrastructure, by leveraging your deep knowledge of fiber network construction, vaults, and associated components to inform GIS data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Azure and the global GIS team to ensure consistency and compliance across regions.
  • Implement quality control processes to identify and rectify inaccuracies or inconsistencies in GIS data.
  • Conduct thorough quality assurance inspections of GIS data, either remotely or through site visits.
  • Develop, document, and maintain SOPs for GIS data collection, validation, and governance.
  • Reviewing FC Results and ensuring those are within Microsoft Core Fiber Standards, producing as-build documentation including technical schematics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ year(s) experience in GIS data management, fiber network construction, fiber planning or related roles.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ year(s) experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • 2+ years’ experience with CAD and GIS software (i.e., Esri, ArcGIS, GE, QGIS) for spatial data manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience developing robust, scalable and diversified operating procedures, workflows and strategies for Geospatial and Delivery segments.
  • Experience with Outside Plant Telecommunications Infrastructure Standards (TIA).
  • Demonstrative experience in partnering with external suppliers and internal cross functional teams by removing boundaries and solving complex Geospatial and Network Capacity Delivery matters.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing Dark Fiber Outside Plant Projects, including Civils, Permitting/Wayleaves, and Inside Plant Projects
