Director (Marine)

Roles & Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Director oversees and manages the organisation’s daily operations to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with strategic goals. This high-level leadership position is crucial in achieving operational excellence and contributing to the organisation’s success. You will report to the Managing Director or another executive leader.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the organisation's overall objectives.
- Create and manage operating budgets and resource allocation plans.
2. Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimise efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve operational performance.
3. Team Management:
- Lead and oversee various operational teams, including production, logistics, quality control, and maintenance.
- Recruit, train, and develop staff to ensure a high-performing and collaborative workforce.
4. Resource Allocation:
- Manage and allocate resources, such as personnel, equipment, and materials, to meet operational needs and objectives.
- Ensure efficient utilisation of resources and timely delivery of projects.
5. Supply Chain Management:
- Oversee the supply chain to ensure the timely procurement of materials, parts, and equipment and efficiently distribute products or services.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to optimise cost and quality.
6. Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control and assurance programs to ensure products or services meet established standards and specifications.
- Address any quality-related issues and initiate corrective actions.
7. Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations to create a safe working environment.
- Develop and enforce safety policies and protocols.
8. Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate operational risks and issues to minimise disruptions to business operations.
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
9. Reporting and Analysis:
- Generate and analyse operational reports to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and areas of concern.
- Present findings to executive leadership.
10. Customer Satisfaction:
- Collaborate with relevant teams or individuals to meet customer expectations and resolve any operational issues that may affect customer satisfaction.
Requirements:
1. Education:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, APICS) are preferred.
2. Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in operations management, at least 10 years in a leadership role, and at least 10 years of working experience in a Shipyard or ship repair field, or its equivalent.
3. Leadership Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead diverse operational teams.
4. Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with various stakeholders, including senior management and cross-functional teams.
5. Problem-Solving:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex operational issues and make strategic decisions.
6. Strategic Thinking:
- Ability to align operational initiatives with the organisation's long-term goals and business strategies.
7. Adaptability:
- Adaptiveness and responsiveness to changing business needs and market conditions.
8. Regulatory Knowledge:
- Understanding of relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements and the ability to implement and maintain compliance measures.
9. Data Analysis:
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques to analyse operational data and make data-driven decisions.
10. Knowledge of Japanese Language and Business Customs for Customer Interaction Role:
- The Director will mainly interact with Japanese customers, therefore, knowledge of the Japanese language and business customs would be an advantage.
