Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, the incumbent will lead and manage the daily operations in a Materials Processing/Testing laboratory. The incumbent shall provide administrative/technical support for academic and research activities, by supporting chemical management, equipment operation, laboratory teaching classes and procurement, to achieve smooth laboratory operations. The incumbent will also take charge of asset/equipment management, budget control, laboratory development, and ensure that safety is compliant with school policy and legal requirements.
Duties include:
Provide administrative/technical support for faculty, research staff and students in carrying out their academic/research activities, including operation of laboratory equipment and procurement.
Support laboratory teaching classes for full-time and part-time undergraduate students, on Materials Testing and Vibration Analyses/Control.
Manage chemical activities in the laboratory and ensure proper documentation, storage, and disposal of chemicals are in compliance with Singapore regulations.
Forecast and manage budget to ensure smooth operation of the laboratory.
Procure materials and equipment required for laboratory teaching and research projects.
Develop and implement total preventive maintenance programmes for laboratory equipment e.g., routine maintenance, testing, and calibration etc., and ensure they are properly maintained, safe to operate and in good working condition.
Development and space optimisation of the laboratory.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure safety standards are compliant with ISO45001 regulations.
Asset management and maintaining proper records for inventory auditing.
Ensure safety and security compliance and housekeeping in the laboratories.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Reporting Officer (RO) and School Management.
Requirements:
Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Chemical Engineering or related discipline, with 5 years of relevant experience OR
Diploma in Mechanical / Chemical Engineering or related discipline, with 10 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge on Materials Testing and Vibration Analyses/Control.
Experience in Risk Management.
Experience in handling and management of chemicals (FM, HS, EP).
Knowledge on local regulatory requirements (SCDF, SPF, NEA, MOM, etc.) for storing and handling regulated chemicals, possessing non-ionising irradiating apparatus, and pressure vessels.
Experience and knowledge in workplace safety and health, including ISO 45001, is a plus.
Experience in budget management and knowledge of government procurement policies is a plus.
Experience in managing staff is a plus.
A team player and able to work independently and effectively under pressure.
