Information Technology - Data Centre Facility Manager

Job Description

The Data Center Facilities Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of our data centre infrastructure. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the facility's operation, including power, cooling, fire protection, security, and environmental controls. Other responsibilities include managing data center floor space and security. You will also lead a team of outsourced technicians and contractors, to manage projects, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.


Key objectives are to:

•Maximize uptime: Ensure the data centre infrastructure meets the required availability levels and minimizes downtime, preventing outages, service and data loss.

•Maintain system redundancy: Implement and manage redundant systems for critical infrastructure to ensure smooth operation even during maintenance or unexpected events. Ensure maintenance regime is adhered to and any arising gaps remediated in a timely manner.

•Control operational expenses: Manage budgets effectively and find cost-saving opportunities for maintenance, upgrades, and external services

•Plan and strategize data center requirements to meet SIA current and future IT roadmap.


Responsibilities:

Lead and manage:

•A team of outsourced data centre technicians and contractors, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.

•Projects related to the maintenance, upgrade, and expansion / optimization of the data centre infrastructure.

•Hosting sites are run as per SLA and within limits of key data centre operating parameters for power cooling and environmental settings

•Emergency response plans for diverse scenarios like power outages, fires, or natural disaster


Ensure optimal performance:

•Of critical infrastructure systems, including power distribution, cooling systems, fire suppression systems, and security systems.

•Of the data centre environment, maintaining optimal temperature, humidity, and air quality.

•Of operational efficiency and resource utilization.


Plan and execute:

•Preventive maintenance schedules and corrective actions for identified issues.

•Emergency response procedures in case of power outages, equipment failures, or other disruptions.

•Budgetary allocation and resource management for the data centre facilities.


Maintain compliance:

•With all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

•Lead and manage data center audits

•Documentation for all systems and procedures.


Collaborate:

•With IT and other teams to ensure the smooth integration of data centre operations with other critical functions.

•With external vendors and service providers to maintain and upgrade equipment and systems.


Data Cente strategy and migration:

•Responsible for providing Data centre design and construction inputs, sustainability initiatives, and energy efficiency optimization

•Work with IT team for data centres space and power requirements

•Work with and support IT team for any data centre migration as required

•Responsible for writing Datacenter related tenders such as maintenance contract, co-location sourcing etc. and writing management approval papers.


Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with minimum 5 years relevant industry experience or Diploma in electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in datacentre infrastructure and facility management

•Familiar with fire safety rules and regulations associated with operating complex datacenter infrastructure

•Proficient in data centre monitoring and management software

•Familiar with data center fiber and structure cabling would be a added advantage

•Possess Datacenter certification eg. CDCP, CDFOM

•Familiar with TIA-942-B design standards for Datacenter, Uptime Standards and ASHRAE requirements

•Familiar with IT hardware specifications and computer racking requirements for datacenter space and power planning.

•Excellent organizational/administrative skills as well as strong communications & interpersonal skills

•Must be a positive, collaborative, active excellent problem-solver, being customer service oriented and conscientious.

•Willing to work on non-office hour and weekend including public holidays
