The Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) is responsible for ensuring timely and efficient rescue operations for injured, lost, abandoned animals. This includes retrieving animals, assessing rescued animals, and safe transportation of them back to the shelter or veterinary clinics for housing and medical attention.

As SPCA’s rescue operations are 24-hours the ARO is expected to work in a shift system including public holidays and weekends (with off days and leave entitlements provided). As he/she works largely in outdoor environments and through various weather conditions and long hours driving to attend to rescue calls, he/she will need to be physically fit.

The responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Responding to animal rescue calls within a stipulated time frame.
  • Attending to animal rescue cases according to the stipulated safety protocols and in a timely manner.
  • Prioritising animal rescues according to level of risk and urgency using guidelines provided.
  • Escalating complex rescue cases to the Operations Director and Operations Manager for further action.
  • Transporting animals to the shelter or nearest veterinary clinic for housing and medical attention.
  • Ensuring that rescue vehicles, carriers, and all equipment are well-maintained and clean.
  • Engaging with feedback providers and animal caregivers to provide them the required information.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc transportation of other items.
  • Supporting house-visits and post adoption check where required.

Others

Provision of support for ad-hoc events and SPCA-led projects.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Able to communicate in written and spoken English
  • Experience working with and rescuing animals is an added advantage but not compulsory
  • *Must have valid Class 3/3A driving license
  • Passionate about animal welfare
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Be able to work rotating shifts (including weekend, 5 days work week)
  • Meticulous and detail oriented
