WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
· Relevant working experience in database administration and support
· Experience in Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Yugabyte and/or PostgreSQL.
· Experience in cloud databases (e.g. AWS RDS).
· Good vendor management skills, and knowledge of industry best practices
Certifications in ITIL and above database technologies will be an advantage
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Application onboarding and configuring of database servers according to best practices.
· Designing and maintaining high availability solutions like replication and failover setups is vital to ensure database uptime. Engineers also plan for disaster recovery scenarios to minimize data loss.
· Schedule regular backups, test recovery procedures, and ensure data integrity to minimize downtime in case of system failures.
· Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks or areas of improvement. This includes analysing query performance, optimizing database schema, and adjusting server settings to ensure optimal performance.
· Keeping PostgreSQL up to date with the latest patches and versions is crucial for security and feature enhancements. Support Engineers plan and execute upgrades carefully to avoid disruptions.
· Plan for database growth by assessing current usage patterns and making scaling recommendations.
