Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Senior Research Fellow position in Prof Brian Kennedy’s lab, part of the Department of Biochemistry and the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on basic, clinical and transformative research to add healthy year of life by developing interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve life quality.


Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.


Purpose of the post

The Senior Research Fellow (SRF) will be responsible to and work closely with Professor Brian Kennedy to provide support in research projects to advance the understanding of aging biology and age-related diseases, with a specific focus on identifying novel anti-aging compounds (drugs, natural products, metabolites, etc.) that can delay cellular aging and extend healthspan. This includes assessing the effectiveness of these potential compounds in various age-related disease models, including neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, sarcopenia, age-related macular degeneration, and skin ailments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Independently lead, design and perform experiments on research projects with experience in biology of ageing and therapeutic interventions for age related diseases.
  2. Conduct literature searches, experimental plans, and data analysis independently and reliably
  3. Assist Principal Investigator in preparing grant proposals, progress reports of research projects.
  4. Has experience, able to supervise and conduct techniques in the following areas:
  5. High-throughput drug screening techniques
  6. Mechanistic studies in ageing models, such as cells, yeast, C. elegans, fish, mice
  7. Basic molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning, gene expression, protein expression/purification, immunoprecipitation, Western blots.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

5. Knowledgeable in the areas of Cellular metabolism, Nutrients signaling, Biological stress, Chemical genomics, Drug discovery

6. Able to train and supervise junior lab members in conducting research projects.

7. Assist with any other duties such as guiding junior lab members on presentations, proprosal writing, etc.

8. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

9. Able to effectively exchange ideas and knowledge with other team members, collaborators or other stakeholders in the scientific community

10. Strong team player skills and the ability to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce.
