Role Summary

The Philanthropic Investment Manager is responsible for developing, accelerating, and maintaining a pipeline of philanthropic supporters at the annual and major gift level (five and six-figures), with expectation to close gifts from Year 1. The core aspects of this role include supporting the Institute’s philanthropic pipeline development through identifying and qualifying new prospects, cultivating new prospects and further cultivating current donors for increased giving, and ultimately soliciting philanthropic dollars from individuals. This includes preparing prospect engagement strategies and proposals for your own pipeline development, as well as in support of the Head of Philanthropy, Asia and the wider BD&I team as needed. The remit of the Philanthropic Investment team in Asia could also extend to corporates as the opportunity arises.


The ideal candidate has a history of securing funds at the five-figure level at minimum. The candidate will also thrive in complex, fast-paced environments. Knowledge of fundraising best practices and Asia philanthropic landscape is essential. The candidate will also have at least three years of frontline fundraising experience, with a knowledge or eagerness to learn about fundraising for a global organisation.


The Philanthropic Investment Manager will lead specific fundraising activities with colleagues across TBI and will work in collaboration and support of the TBI Asia team. This role is within the Global Business Development & Income division of TBI, and part of the wider Strategy & Partnerships department (S&P).


Fundraising

  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of 40-55 donors with capacity for six-figure gifts
  • Raise philanthropic funds, focusing on but not limited to individuals, family offices, foundations, in support of the Institute’s bold and expanding initiatives, hitting annual targets as developed with the Head of Asia Philanthropy
  • Contribute to developing collateral materials, proposals for philanthropic support and reporting in line with donor expectations and requirements
  • Develop thorough knowledge of team’s needs to provide proactive, efficient, and expedient resources and support
  • Develop thorough knowledge of Asia’s fundraising regulations, restrictions and trends
  • Identify relevant events/networks/platforms to participate in

Project Management

  • Work with colleagues across the BD&I and Business Operations teams to support the internal reporting cadence of progress toward targets and metrics for the Asia Philanthropy team
  • Engage in prospect research as requested with employment verification; contact updating; and related prospect detail discovery for individual prospects as needed
  • Maintain and update prospects lists, donor news alerts, and philanthropic trends to inform strategies
  • Manage and oversee additional fundraising related projects as they arise
  • Support production of donor correspondence and stewardship reporting
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed for the generation of briefings, profiles, and other donor materials

Project Administration

  • Work closely with all teams to lead in maintainining database integrity and perform routine prospect data clean-up
  • Track fundraising activities in database for all managed prospects
  • Provide database and administrative support to Head of Philanthropy, Asia

Person Specification

  • The ideal candidate should have experience of frontline fundraising or related experience, preferably at an international non-profit or in a relationships management role
  • Ideally will hold a Bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and Asia philanthropic landscape is essential, as is a history of securing funds at the five-figure level
  • Will be a detail-orientated and agile colleague, who exhibits exceptional judgement, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues around the globe
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, strong presentation skills and a high degree of professionalism are essential, as we interact and engage with high-level staff, donors, board members, and sensitive information
  • An interest in international development, politics, and global affairs is strongly recommended
