Job Description

A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR ID Labs) is seeking for Research Officers to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research. A*STAR ID Labs aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response to drive and deliver translational infectious diseases research to better health and economic outcomes.

The laboratory headed by Dr. Marco Vignuzzi is leading cutting edge virology and antiviral and vaccine therapies. We are seeking a fast learner who can participate in multiple projects in the lab.

Job Description:

  • Perform virological assays in cell culture for a wide variety of RNA pathogens, including chikungunya virus, Zika virus, dengue viruses, enteroviruses, influenza virus
  • Work with mouse infection models to test antiviral therapies
  • Conduct laboratory experiments in antiviral drug testing and perform data analysis for industry/research collaboration projects
  • Perform meticulous recordkeeping and able to draft delivery report to industrial partners
  • Oversee daily laboratory activities and help manage the lab’s routine admin duties
  • Help new students and postdocs settle into the lab and transfer techniques to them
  • Ensure safe technical practices and procedures
  • Participate in the scientific discussions and brain-stormings of the lab
  • Participate in presenting lab work in internal and external meetings

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Immunology, or related field.
  • 2 or more years of solid experimental experience
  • Ability to work in molecular biology and in cell culture
  • Experience with BSL-2 pathogens, and cell culture will be an asset
  • General lab skills in molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RNA and DNA methods)
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and multitask
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • A strong desire to constantly learn and acquire new skills
