Research Fellow (Magnetic Materials)

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at NTU invites applications for the position of Research Fellow. The Research Fellow will be involved in the chemistry, physics, applications, and deployment of bare and coated magnetic particles.

MSE provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out research in key areas. The School is consistently ranked in the top 3 worldwide. MSE is equipped with various types of apparatus and equipment for both teaching and high quality research. MSE seeks to aggressively develop and commercialize technologies based on a NRF/CRP-funded project: Directed Energy Materials for Advanced Manufacturing. This technology aims to deploy induction technology for the manufacturing of sustainable composites, plastics etc. in industrial sectors such as automotive, sports, and green energy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop the chemistry, physics, applications, and deployment of bare and coated magnetic particles for directed energy applications.
  • Develop induction systems for deployment of the particles in applications
  • Synthesis, characterization and property evaluation of magnetic materials and polymers.
  • Develop induction systems for deployment of the particles in applications.
  • Research design and deploy industrial demonstrator.
  • Manage and deliver project KPIs and objectives per plan
  • Ensure milestone delivery per plan/schedule, manage/control project risks & mitigating actions
  • Prepare/consolidate periodic reports (finance, technical) as required
  • Manage project documentation, knowledge/data capture and reporting
  • Manage logistical issues and laboratory inventory
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of the research work
  • Generate technical reports, write journal papers, and liaise with collaborators.
  • Collaborate with industrial partners to commercialize and spin-out technology platforms.
  • Research design and deploy industrial demonstrator.

Job Requirement

  • Minimally PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering or closely related discipline,
  • Knowledge of synthesis, characterization and property evaluation of high-performance materials
  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies
  • Energetic and self-motivated
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to work in a diverse, interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Experience in schedule and resource planning.
  • Ability to work well with multiple competing priorities, manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong initiatives.
  • Evidence of research output, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with the synthesis, characterization and property evaluation of magnetic materials and polymers
  • Strong record of scientific/industrial impact within a composites/materials/engineering sector
  • Strong communication skills, an energetic, self-motivated and can-do attitude and ability to effectively interface with vendors is vital.
  • Strong expertise in areas related to directed energy materials for advanced manufacturing
