About co11ab
co11ab is a BioMedtech incubator, established jointly between the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), the Agency for Science, Technology, and Research (A*STAR), and the National Healthcare Group (NHG). Co11ab’s mission is to nurture and support the translational development of biomedical technologies by incubating early stage spin-outs and facilitating their development into more established ventures. co11ab is physically located in Clinical Sciences Building, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU Novena Campus. Co11ab is directed by the Executive Director, assisted in day-to-day administration by an Administrative Team of four persons, the most senior of these being the Deputy Director, and these are in turn supported by the admin infrastructure of NTU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
Responsibilities
The Deputy Director will (a) assist the Executive Director (ED) and (b) oversee the Administration Team to deliver the day-to- day operations of co11ab, as directed by the ED, and (c) execute the Business Development function within the Administration Team, tasked with building a pipeline of new members and helping to drive development of resident members.
Identify and engage members of the highest quality:
The DD will scout the local ecosystem for the most promising fledgling ventures and partners to which co11ab can add value, and conversely companies and partners that will add value to co11ab, helping it establish itself as a premier incubator/accelerator.
Drive development of member businesses:
The DD will accelerate the development of member businesses, by helping them e.g., expand their network, build management, advisory and board teams, attract venture funding, form collaborations and strike corporate deals. In doing so the DD will work closely with venture building VCs, university Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs), co11ab’s partners and a broad personal network.
Execute the Business Development function within the Admin Team, providing co11ab with a steady stream of high-quality fledgling ventures and helping drive their development, enabling them to graduate from co11ab on a surer footing
Assist the ED in start-up/project selection, financing and monitoring
Assist the ED to put in place programmes, events and commercialization activities.
Attend internal and external forums/meetings/committees, serving as point of contact and champion for co11ab
Supervise co11ab’s Admin Team:
DD is the senior assistant to the ED in the daily operation co11ab.
DD will supervise the Administration Team (i.e., the functions of Facility Operations and Finance; Safety and Facilities; Events and Outreach; and Assistant Executive) in executing their assignments, under the direction of the ED.
Requirements
PhD in life sciences, physical sciences or engineering with relevant experience, or Bachelors’ degree in entrepreneurship, business or marketing.
Deep understanding of biomedical innovation cycle and entrepreneurship
Understanding of translational development of biomedical assets including therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical devices
Familiarity with Singapore’s biomedical start up ecosystem
Minimum 10 years in a biomedical startup/technology transfer/venture building/innovation management
Real world entrepreneurial experience in e.g., starting companies, raising capital, operating businesses, managing IP, business development, project management and M&A required
Demonstrable team management skills with strong track record of building and leading effective teams
Excellent verbal and written skills, and ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders of varied backgrounds
Mission oriented and team player
Strong EQ with ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders
Ability to adapt to changing priorities
Self-motivated and independent
