Key Responsibilities
General
· Reporting to the Singapore Rowing Association (SRA) President and SRA Executive Committee, and alongside the Singapore National Head Coach, the SDO will be responsible for the development and expansion of rowing as a sport in Singapore and with promoting our links with other NSA’s in Singapore as well as with international rowing bodies
Key Objectives
1. Outreach
· Increase rowing awareness and participation by introducing the sport in heartland areas and exploring the possibility of rowing on other water bodies of Singapore (which may include Coastal Rowing).
· Oversee the organising of Singapore's first-ever annual Indoor Rowing Championship (Q1 2024) and integrate indoor rowing as part of the rowing community.
· Organise local competitions for schools, communities and corporates, for outreach and possible fund raising opportunities
· Working with the SRA Exco to look at opportunities for longer term sponsorship and funding
· Assist in and provide support for the development of a increased number of affiliated local rowing clubs
2. Coach Certification Program
· Develop a curriculum in collaboration with World Rowing and Coach Singapore to certify local coaches.
· This will in turn increase SRA’s capacity to handle greater numbers of rowers and to ensure greater utlisation of SRA’s equipment and facilities
· Host Asia's Coach Developer Course in Singapore (Q4 2024) and certify 10-12 local coaches.
3. School / Tertiary Institutions Engagement
· Working with the Singapore National Head Coach , the objective is to build a stable squad of [12 or more] regular rowers (both male and female) as well as a pipeline of younger rowers who will be th foundation for future rowing success at major games in years to come.
· Collaborate with schools, focusing on NTU-NIE teaching curriculum with Physical Education teachers.
· Initiate regular touchpoints with secondary schools, introducing rowing to students, especially those in the vicinity of 249 Jalan Buroh.
