In the Critical Facilities Standards Engineer role, you will have an opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team of industry professionals across the Critical Environments (CE) spectrum within Microsoft’s 24x7x365 mission-critical data centers. You will be serving as a mission critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure subject-matter-expert with accountabilities that include, but are not limited to, development, maintenance, and delivery of global programs relating to critical environments infrastructure. These programs include maintenance, operations, and technical standards. You will monitor the execution of these programs and identify opportunities for continuous improvements. You will be expected to leverage your industry experience along with knowledge from industry governing bodies in developing these programs. You will be expected to document and implement best practices and learnings from the field as they apply to Microsoft’s global mission critical facilities.
Responsibilities
As a Critical Environments Standards Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing, maintaining, and delivering Microsoft's global standards and CE programs. This position demands a deep understanding of mission-critical environments and a commitment to delivering global consistency and predictability.
As a technical authority for onsite operations, you will lead efforts to identify and recommend optimal solutions to solve complex problems. Your expertise in operational infrastructure and maintenance will be essential in ensuring that our data centers meet the highest standards of reliability and availability. You will drive the process strategy as well as operational requirements for assigned systems and process.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage a variety of information sources, including monitoring program health, evaluating industry trends and best practices, and analyzing customer insights and lessons learned. You will champion the delivery of new developments and implementation of programs developed by our group and serve as an escalation point for issues identified in the operations of our data centers.

Qualifications
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or in relevant field or equivalent work experience. Masters preferred.
- 3+ years of experience with large-scale electrical power or HVAC infrastructure
- 3 years of program/project management experience
- 2+ years of experience operating or supporting the operations of mission critical or large-scale data center
- 3+ years of experience in auditing, assessing, and optimizing mechanical and electrical systems within large-scale data centers or mission critical facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure, as well as operational excellence best practices.
Desired Experience:
- 3+ years project management experience with a focus on PMI, Agile, Lean, Six Sigma or ITIL methodologies.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, or equivalent technical certification.
- Fundamental understanding of large-scale critical infrastructure maintenance and operations, especially with regards to electrical distribution systems or HVAC systems
- Experience in evaluating staffing levels, Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), conducting drills, and overseeing maintenance programs.
- Proficiency in utilizing audit tools, simulation software, and other relevant engineering software.
- Knowledge of construction techniques and terminology including the ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings and documents is essential.
- Ability to write specifications to be leveraged by partner teams
- Ability to manage, prioritize and successfully execute multiple concurrent mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- 2+ years of program development experience.
- Working knowledge of contract terms, conditions, mechanism, and procedures.
- 5+ years’ experience with the operation and maintenance of building electrical systems or HVAC systems.
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks and projects, including those involving cross-functional teams.
- Experience with CMMS, SharePoint, and PowerBI.
- Ability to balance competing demands for resources and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated strategic and deliberate approach to problem solving in ambiguous environments.
- Proven ability to deliver projects on-time and as specified.
- Proven ability to motivate disparate teams both direct and indirect to solve issues.
- Proven ability to apply clear critical thinking in complex situations.
- Provide meaningful and timely reporting for weekly success metrics
- Occasional travel will be involved.
- Ability to work independently
