SUMMARY
This position manages HOME’s overall communications/public education function, and supervises any others (e.g. communications volunteers, graphic designers, technical support, photographers/videographers and other vendors) involved in supporting communications.
The Communications Manager works jointly with the Executive Director to develop and implement effective communication strategies that promote the organization’s mission, values, and goals to key stakeholders. This includes creating engaging content for a variety of channels, managing the organization’s social media accounts, building relationships with the media, and ensuring consistent branding across all communication materials. The Communications Manager
is also responsible for internal communications efforts as needed.
This position interacts regularly with all levels of the organization and can be called upon to provide advice and/or communications-related services as needed. Additionally, the Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing communication projects to ensure they
are completed on time and within budget. The position requires someone with excellent communication skills, the ability to prioritize, and a “big picture” view of the organization and the external environment in which it operates.
JOB SCOPE
- Developing communications strategies: You will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that effectively convey the organization’s mission, values, and goals to key stakeholders, including employees, partners, donors, authorities and beneficiaries.
- Creating content: You will need to create engaging and informative content for a variety of channels, such as press releases, social media posts, blog posts, marketing materials, presentations, board decks, and other funding and donor reports.
- Advocacy: You will work closely with the ED and Research & Advocacy Manager in the planning of advocacy campaigns and ensuring such campaigns are supported by an effective communications plan. You will also be required to present our advocacy content on our social media channels and website in an engaging, informative, and creative manner.
- Managing social media: You will need to manage the organization’s social media accounts, including creating and posting content, responding to comments and messages, and analyzing metrics to continually improve social media engagement.
- Managing media relations: You will need to build relationships with journalists and media outlets, pitch stories to the media, and manage any media inquiries that arise.
- Internal communications: You will need to work closely with the ED to develop and implement internal communication strategies to ensure that employees, volunteers, and Board members are informed and engaged with the organization’s activities and goals.
- Managing events: You may need to plan and manage events, such as press conferences, and outreach events, and prepare summary reports. You will be involved in public engagement activities, such as coordinating school talks and presentations to students and other audiences.

- Strategic thinking: The Communications Manager must be able to think strategically and develop effective communication plans that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Excellent writing skills: The Communications Manager must have excellent writing skills to create clear, concise, and engaging content for a variety of channels.
- Digital marketing: The Communications Manager must have a deep understanding of digital marketing and be able to effectively use digital channels to promote the organization, its cause and in empowering the beneficiaries.
- Strong interpersonal skills: The Communications Manager must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to build positive relationships with stakeholders, including journalists, partners, volunteers, and beneficiaries.
- Crisis communication: The Communications Manager must be able to manage communication during a crisis situation, including developing effective messaging and managing media inquiries.
- Project management: The Communications Manager must have excellent project management skills to manage communication projects, including setting and meeting timelines, budgets, and expectations.
- Attention to detail: The Communications Manager must demonstrate a strong attention to detail to ensure that all communication materials are error-free and accurate.
- Knowledge of emerging trends: The Communications Manager must stay up-to-date on emerging communication trends, including social media platforms, emerging technologies, and changes in the media landscape.
The Communications Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Minimum diploma and above, preferably in Communications and Marketing.
- At least three years of working experience in a similar role or capacity.
- Strong preference for candidates with experience working or volunteering in the non-profit sector.
SALARY & BENEFITS
- Salary range: S$3,500 to S$4,000
