Lecturer (Master of Special and Inclusive Education)

This position is offered on an initial two year full-time fixed term basis. We are seeking a research active academic with a proven track record of effective teaching and experience in the field of Special and Inclusive Education. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Teaching:

Should have the ability to address the following topics through different modules and subjects -

  • Education of students with learning difficulties
  • Teaching methods and techniques in special and inclusive education
  • Critiquing and designing research in inclusive, special education or disability service settings
  • Specialisations within the program in any of the following four areas:
  1. Deaf Studies and Deaf Education - this specialisation will equip you with skills to support children and young people who are deaf or hard of hearing in early intervention programs or in specialised units or facilities. Qualified teachers will be prepared to take the role of a teacher of the deaf.
  2. Early Childhood - this specialisation explores contemporary issues in early childhood prevention and intervention including working collaboratively with families and other professionals to support young children’s learning, socialisation and communication.
  3. Emotional Disturbance/Behavioural Problems - this specialisation explores how to assess, program and intervene in behaviour problems, and master the teaching methods and techniques to educate students with emotional or behaviour problems.
  4. General Special Education

Research:

  • Establish research programs and develop applications for external research funding.
  • Engage in collaboratively research.
  • Conduct research and publish journal articles and conference papers.

Administration:

  • Take an active role in the development of curricula for the Special and Inclusive Education programs.
  • Take an active role implementing quality assurance processes.
  • Contribute to the decision-making process.

Selection Criteria

  • PhD in Special or Inclusive Education or related discipline
  • Proven track record of effective postgraduate teaching in the core areas of Special or Inclusive Education
  • Relevant professional experience in the in the field of Special or Inclusive Education
  • An understanding of emerging issues in the Special or Inclusive Education
  • Demonstrated research record including scholarly publications in academic journals
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate postgraduate courses
