You will play a key role in an enterprise-wide strategic digital transformation initiative which will drive data and analytics transparency and seamless integration across strategic domains. The programme will define the strategy, approach, and processes by which the organisation acquires, stores, curates, manages, and analyses data, setting standards for data and analytics quality and security. Working within the programme team, you will participate in an evidence-driven culture of decision-making and demonstrate outstanding use of data and analytics at Dyson.

In this role, you will work together with existing functions and teams working on data and analytics, contribute to an ambitious and inclusive data and analytics transformation strategy, and participate in driving benefit across the organisation.
About the role
This exciting role will allow you to bring your extensive Data Science expertise into a fascinating problem space – as we create innovative data products to drive enhancements to the owner experience through our app and machines.
The Associate Principal Data Scientist will provide technical and strategic leadership and solution design across the Global Connectivity Data team, and beyond. The role involves hands-on management and implementation of multiple Data Science projects and contributing to overall strategy across wider initiatives and programmes. You will be key in developing, recruiting, and mentoring our Data Science talent.
You will work closely with Data Scientists, Data Product Managers, Data Product Owners and MLOps Engineers – evolving and improving our Connected Intelligence Platform, Connected Control Tower, our Data Science toolset, and the data products that we create.
In this role, you will:
- Be a subject matter expert in ML and Data Science, with an emphasis on A/B experiment design and measurement, forecasting, segmentation, recommender systems and statistical rigour.
- Lead end-to-end projects in Data Science and Data Engineering. You will play a key strategic role in the evolution of the Data roadmap and contribute to a broad range of initiatives and programmes.
- Provide technical leadership and be a role-model who contributes to the development of standards, improving processes, leading rigorous code reviews, and developing Data Scientists and ML Engineers. You will be an expert in automating manual processes and spotting opportunities to increase efficiency and scale existing solutions.
- Need to communicate concisely with Product Owners and senior stakeholders to drive engagement in new opportunities for Dyson. Evolve and manage our capability to provide concise executive-level reporting and be accountable for the quality of analysis provided. Maintain awareness of industry trends in Data Science and bring these back to the team to inform our decisions. Contribute to recruitment and help grow a truly global Data team.
About you
- Strong leadership skills and consensus-building ability.
- Proven track record in Python development in both Data Science and Software Engineering contexts, with the ability and desire to upskill and coach team members in concepts such as
- APIs and services
- Unit-testing
- OOP
- Commonly used packages such as statsmodels, scikit-learn, tensorflow
- Expert-level SQL (BigQuery or Redshift an advantage)
- Cloud experience (GCP or AWS an advantage)
- Building and supporting automated analytics solutions in production environments
- Building and leading the delivery of real-world predictive models within a business environment
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in Statistics - Proven experience in handling complex statistical modeling and analyses, demonstrated through roles in diverse environments like research, academia, consultancy, or ecology.
- Enjoy driving business value through Data Science and measuring progress against KPIs.
Ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload, leading on multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in line management of Data Scientists - Communicate and present concisely to the senior leadership team
- Ability to tell a story using data with expertise in visualisation tools e.g. Tableau, Looker
