About the job

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven team manager to assume the role of Head (Academic Applications). This person will be responsible for overseeing and leading a group of IT professionals to strategize, plan, implement and manage systems that support the learner lifecycle processes (from prospect to applicant to student to alumni to lifelong learner), with the goal of enabling the user departments to achieve their business objectives, and to optimize business efficiency through the effective use of Information Technology.

What you will be doing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Information System Planning and Execution: Strategize, plan and execute Academic Applications roadmap, coordinate cross-departmental IT initiatives, to achieve business-IT alignment and coherence in the administration of the learner processes across the university.
  • Accounts Management and User Engagement: Engage and advise user departments on IT matters, help them take advantage of IT to maximize business outcome.
  • Program and Project Leadership: Provide directive and guidance to Project Managers, manage key stakeholders’ expectation.
  • Staff and Team Development: Coach and develop team members to maximize their potential and to develop a motivated and high performing team.
  • Business Management and Operation: Oversee day-to-day operation of the Academic Applications Team, such as to review and approve requests, handle issues/incidents, budgeting, procurement, recruitment, audit, vendor management, etc.


Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 15 years of working experience with at least 2 years in team management and 5 years in project management.
  • Certification in PMP or CITPM will be an added advantage.
  • Familiar with some aspects of student lifecycle processes – admission, enrolment, internship, student exchange, student financials, CCA, exam processing, graduation, alumni engagement, etc.
  • Strategic and Tactical Planning – ability to see the big picture, conceptualize ideas and turn into execution plan.
  • Communication skill – ability to present/sell ideas, persuade buy-ins, engage users and build network within and across institutions.
  • Management skill – ability to balance the demands of multiple departments, oversee concurrent projects, and prioritize conflicting needs.
  • Leadership skill – ability to motivate and lead a team to achieve shared goals.
  • Good grasp of IT technologies, methodologies, architectures, and best practices.
  • Good appreciation of how to apply emerging technologies such as RPA, Digital Credentials, Generative AI in business use cases.
  • Knowledge of student administration related solutions (e.g. timetable scheduling software, study abroad system, student information system) in the market.
  • Appreciation of cybersecurity best practices.
