The school is looking to appoint a motivated, creative and energetic Teacher of Art & Music for August 2024.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • To teach according to the timetable for the current year, ensuring that lessons are planned, ordered and effective.
  • To be aware of the need to differentiate work and challenges according to the ability of the pupils, whilst maintaining high expectations of all and taking full account of any linguistic or other special needs.
  • To work as part of a team, in harmony with and for the furtherance of the College’s ethos and declared educational aims and priorities
  • To be supportive of the department’s aims, agreed teaching styles, methods of assessment and other policies.
  • To set written assignments or other creative pieces of work that involve a finished product (prep) regularly and mark them promptly and in accordance with College and Departmental policies, ensuring that formative comments are always helpful and make helpful suggestions for further appropriate improvement in learning.
  • To provide parents with written reports on their children’s work and progress according to current College policy and to attend parent meetings.
  • To take a share of boarding duties, invigilation and cover for absent colleagues
  • To be responsible for the supervision, control and proper use of teaching rooms, materials and resources, and to have regard to health and safety issues and regulations.
  • To attend InSET, Staff meetings, Key Stage briefings and other meetings that may be called from time to time, as required by the College's Academic Leadership.
  • To report in a timely manner any concerns regarding Child Protection or bullying to the appropriate colleague. Be responsible for the pastoral care of the children in the class and ensuring good personal relationships are fostered between the children themselves and with the teacher.
  • To take responsibility for one’s continuing professional development and, to this end, to participate in Development and Review procedures as directed by the College's Academic Leadership.
  • To contribute to the College’s broad and active co-curricular activities programme.
  • Undertake all duties and procedures as specified in staff handbook.
  • To be a good role model in respect of speech, dress, behaviour and care of equipment.
  • Meet with parents as required and foster good professional relationships and communication with parents, this includes but not limited to attending parents' evenings, school functions, Parent Association events and other evening/weekend events.
  • Ensure that the parent portal is kept up-to-date and provides useful links for parents.
  • To actively contribute to the Dance, Drama, Art and Music CCA programme.
  • To work within an enthusiastic team and help drive the Art and Music teaching in the College to inspire and instill a love of these subject areas in the pupils.
  • Attend department meetings and moderation meetings.
  • Contribute to the Department’s devising and writing of new subject materials when required.
  • This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities, reasonable request may also be included.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Possess 2 to 6 years of teaching experience with a university degree and teaching qualification.
  • Experience of teaching Art and Music lessons to the whole primary age range and EYFS.
  • Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements for Art and Music at the relevant Key Stages, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' work.
  • Proven record of teaching experience, prior experience in independent Prep School will be an added advantage.
