Main Purpose of Job:

  • The Regional Research & Development (R&D) Manager will be primarily responsible to oversee and manage the full spectrum of R&D Division activities in Yanmar International Singapore Pte Ltd (YIS).
  • To establish a close partnership with regional R&D teams in the designated overseas companies and with Japan headquarters (HQ) R&D Senior Management to ensure contribution of regional R&D initiatives.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop the regional R&D strategy plan as part of HQ’s R&D strategy planning process and provide input on business priorities and challenges faced regionally.
  • To work with the HQ R&D Division and regional Corporate Planning departments to ensure that R&D programs formulated supports the business needs, and act as a change advocate to help drive these initiatives into each business.
  • Determine regional short-term and mid-term R&D roadmap and strategies in accordance with the HQ’s R&D strategies and business requirements.
  • Oversee all research, planning, and implementation of new programs and protocols for the designated overseas companies including the development of new products.
  • Coordinate with overseas R&D departments on the implementation of activities related to Product Development and Product Testing areas, as well as for the improvement of existing products and technologies.
  • Oversee all Product Testing and Product Development initiatives that are carried out in overseas companies.
  • Work with relevant divisions to ensure successful developmental processes for new products and programs, from initial planning to implementation and production, as well as follow-up after implementation.
  • Assess the scope of research projects and ensure the regional projects will be completed on time and within approved budgets.
  • Develop and implement regional R&D policies and procedures.
  • Provide overall R&D governance for the designated overseas companies.
  • Plan, manage and monitor all R&D budget matters in the designated overseas companies.
  • Functional management of all R&D staffing ensuring maximum productivity and responsibility for staff development.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • The Regional R&D Manager will be responsible to lead the R&D Division in YIS to accomplish all divisional goals and responsibilities.


Competencies Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to express oneself clearly in conversations, interactions and business writing with others.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with employees at all levels within the company and also with external parties (e.g. partners, clients, vendors etc.).
  • Ability to strategically analyze the current position or situation by considering internal and external trends, stakeholder requirements, and competitors.
  • Detailed, well-organized and able to multi-task and manage multiple projects at the same time, prioritizing required actions accordingly to meet required deadlines.
  • Strong drive to remain focused, self-motivated and committed to completing or achieving tasks.
  • Professional attitude and projection of a professional company image, in line with the Company’s core values.
  • Must be able to travel overseas if required.


Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration/Management or related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in regional R&D strategic planning/delivery management and project management, especially in process improvement, best-practice, and partnership with business leaders.
  • Minimum 5 years’ working experience in people management especially in a management position.
  • Good understanding of R&D practices and regulatory compliance in Asia Pacific.
  • Prior experience in Manufacturing or Machinery Industry will be an added advantage.
  • Prior experience in working in a multi-cultural environment is an added advantage.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English. Ability to speak and understand Japanese language is an added advantage.
