THE ROLE
Responsible for executing commercial deals and reviewing freight contracts as well as carrying out ship operations of all dry bulk cargoes.
Ensure its operations complies with The Company’s internal standards including compliance and Health, Safety, Security and Environment and general chartering terms.
Ensure that all obligations arising from the contracts and charter parties are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with
Deal with cargo and freight counterparties and terminals on a regular basis regarding all pre- and post-fixture activities ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met
Promote good relationships with Ship owner/Masters to continuously monitor and improve operational efficiency over and above Charter Party obligations
Close communication between internal and external stakeholders to enhance trading decisions
Appoint independent inspectors and surveyors
Provide guidance for necessary cargo invoicing work, diversion payments and clearances of accruals for both external and internal deals
Review Fixture notes, Charter Party Agreements and contracts, optimize understanding and exploit clauses
Specifically seek to add value by exercising embedded commercial and logistical deal options and by pro-active approach to problem solving
Support commercial colleagues on the workability of proposed contractual arrangements for new projects, new contracts and spot cargoes
Manage relationships with external stakeholders, counterparties and service providers e.g., suppliers and customers, regulatory bodies, agents, inspectors and survey companies
Ensure all operating vessels have been vetted and ensure compliance with internal Chartering Policy
Close out the accounting for all costs, including claims and close voyages in system/
Manage trade-offs between hire cost, bunker consumption, vessel speed and ensure optimal voyage planning for cost saving
Execute all freight contracts related to the specific vessels, i.e. vessels nomination, laytime calculation, calculation of payments and/or receipts and operating schedules for individual vessels
Be involved in daily freight operations tasks including
Payment of preliminary and final disbursements accounts
Keeping track and chasing of third party outstandings
Handling settlements in the system for payment including freight operations and bunker payments
Obtaining info required for credit / KYC purposes
Tracking of LOIs / OBLs
REQUIREMENTS
Degree or Diploma holder
3-7 years’ experience in commercial dry bulk operations
Ability to operate ships independently/ with minimal supervision
Experience with Time Charter and Voyage Charter operations will be a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and has good computer skills
