Automation Engineer

The roles is primarily responsible for maintaining the plant automation system, ensuring latest program & software backups are archived & readily available for all Programmable Electronic Systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs etc), Calibrations are done in time, any changes to automation systems are approved and tracked through change control process , critical automations spare parts are available, automation maintenance & calibrations are carried out with in allocated budget & also supporting the automation Design, development , implementation & validation of new automation systems including digital factory & digital asset security initiative.

Responsibilities:

  • Support BIS, Operations and Maintenance groups throughout the organization as an escalation point for technical issues and advice related to plant automation, instrumentation & control systems.
  • Support any projects / capex involving automation by directing and monitoring vendor activities including design, development and testing; evaluate vendor documents including System Design Specifications.
  • Maintain operational as-built and operating documentation for plant control system infrastructure.
  • Manage contracts and vendors related to plant automation support.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with regulatory guidelines. Maintain the validated status of production equipment and associated control systems, in accordance GMP requirements
  • Leads projects, when assigned, including developing conceptual design, scope of work, project schedules, and status reports. When appropriate, conducts project design review and/or status meetings for sponsoring departments and management.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of Plant Automation systems including Rockwell Allen Bradley PLCs (Compact Logix, Control Logix, etc.) , Panel View, Wonderware ArchestrA & Intouch, Wonderware Historian, SQL database, EtherNet/IP , FTAC, Power Flex VFDs & any other control systems installed at site.
  • Provide necessary training to Engineers and Technicians as required.
  • Ensure latest backups and crash recovery procedures are updated and tested to recover any Programmable Electronic System (PLCs, HMIs , SCADA, VFDs, Controllers etc) in case of a crash / failure.
  • Maintain the as built plant automation system architecture, list of all automation assets (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs) & passwords.
  • Through the change control process ensure that changes carried out on the Automation Systems do not compromise the safety, environmental or quality stance of the plant.
  • Review Validation documentation (FAT, IQ/OQ etc.). Assist with qualification and validation activities as required.
  • Manage the site Calibration Program as per Global Calibration standard guidelines. Ensure that calibration master list is aligned with all stake holders, kept updated for any new projects and calibrations completed in time
  • Work closely with the Global Automation Manager to deliver compliance with Global Automation Standards including asset inventory and life cycle management of OT assets.
  • Other Ad Hoc duties

Pre-requisites:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent with minimum 5 years of industrial automation experience preferably in operations / manufacturing environment, with proven track record of delivery of high impact technology solutions & managing manufacturing automation systems.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) ControlLogix PLCs , PanelView HMI & Powerflex VFDs ; Wonderware InTouch , Historian & Archestra would be preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of Ethernet and other network based I/O systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of machine safety requirements & ATEX preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in project management and leadership of cross-functional teams.
  • Experience of working with SAP for Calibrations and spares management would be a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated history of positive interpersonal skills showing courtesy, tact, and understanding in interactions with co-workers.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, self-motivated.
  • Sound communication and stake holder management skills.
