Marine Operations Superintendent

Synergy Nordic Shipmanagement is searching for an experienced Marine Operations Superintendent to join our Singapore office in the Tanker industry.


You are expected to be proactive in vessels assigned to you towards their performance and safety navigations. Mainly provided support in Marine operations.

Job Descriptions:


  • To be proactive in ensuring that vessels assigned to him/her are performing and navigated safely, following relevant rules and regulations.
  • To provide support in matters relating to Marine Operations, including nautical, cargo, vetting, health, safety, environment, quality advisory and certification as detailed within the department SOP.
  • To provide maritime security support and advice in liaison with Company Security Officer.
  • To support fleet and stakeholders ashore in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • To conduct ship visits, including audits, and inspections.
  • To provide constructive input in the continual improvement of SMS and related processes
  • To participate in the contingency drills & and outside office hours’ duty roster system as ‘On call Duty Superintendent’.
  • Handling of third-party inspections (SIRE, CDI, PSC, FSI etc.), follow-up and closure of the findings.
  • To arrange external ISM/ISPS/MLC Audits in a timely fashion.
  • To provide marine support to the Master for the effective fulfilment of voyage and cargo handling requirements.
  • To support the Company / QHSE & Marine Operations department as relevant and when required.
  • To support fleet and shore with subject matter expertise as assigned.
  • To carry out ad-hoc tasks and projects professionally and competently as assigned.
  • Occasional overseas and offshore travel required for ship inspections, audits, incident investigation, attending seminars/workshops.

Decision Expected:


  • Contingency response – Initiate emergency response.
  • Review vessel’s passage plan/call at non-routine ports/terminals/new terminals/anchorages/rivers.
  • Review RA and supporting information for transit at lesser UKC/overhead clearance than company policy.
  • Review RA and approve hot work proposals, non-routine operations.
  • Appraisals, debriefing of masters of assigned vessels, propose high performing chief officers for promotion/LAP-D.
  • Screen and approve vessels proposed for STS operation.
  • Sailing nav audit/VDR data analysis to assess bridge team performance, investigate NM/ Incidents.
  • Ad-hoc decisions/input relating to own subject matter expertise.


Educational Background and Work Experience:


Mandatory:

  • Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner or Chief Engr) or suitable equivalent e.g., B.Sc. Nautical Science.
  • Minimum 6 months sailing experience as a senior deck officer (Chief officer/Master) on board oil/chemical tanker vessels.

Desirable:

  • Auditor in applicable standards (ISM, ISPS, MLC)
  • Experience in incident investigation
  • Experience in a similar position in a shore-based organization
  • Practical knowledge & experience of ECDIS, STS operations, Navigational audits, extensive/specialized tank cleaning operations and ice navigation
