Responsibilities
- Collaborate with journalists, designers and data visualisation developers to understand requirements and translate them into visual designs that accurately represent the underlying data, editorial angle or product request
- Design and create data-driven visualisations, including charts, graphs, maps, and interactive web applications.
- Utilise technologies such as Svelte, React, D3.js, or similar front-end frameworks for building interactive and responsive data visualisations.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to continually improve and innovate our interactive content.
- Carry out investigative journalism/research with journalists using data, including conducting interviews and finding/verifying data sources.
- Use various statistics and data science tools for data parsing, scraping and wrangling.
- Manage workflow and process for data-driven stories in the newsroom.
- Thoroughly test and troubleshoot interactive graphics to ensure functionality and performance standards are met.
Requirement
- Proficiency in front-end web development technologies such as Svelte or React, d3.js, WebGL
- Strong understanding of data analysis and statistical methods to extract meaningful insights for editorial storytelling purposes
- Knowledge of AWS services for data storage, retrieval, and integration.
- Proficiency in Figma, Adobe CC (Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects) and 3D software are a plus
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), spatial analysis tools
- Experiencewith augmented reality (AR) design is a plus.
- Familiarity with the news industry and an interest in current events.
- Experience in managing time effectively to meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining the quality of work.
- Prior experience in a data visualisation role / visual storytelling would be preferred
