RESPONSIBILITIES
Interdisciplinary research is necessary to address many of the key issues of our times. Unfortunately, there are significant barriers to interdisciplinary collaboration. These include, among others, differences in publication conventions and norms among disciplines, tenure and academic promotion processes favouring single-discipline research, and perceptions that interdisciplinary research is less rigorous than single-discipline research. While these challenges are likely to resonate with interdisciplinary scholars, there is a need to move beyond an evidence-base that is mostly anecdotal towards a systematic understanding of these practical challenges.
In this project, the Research Fellow will work together with Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt to identify and quantify practical challenges to interdisciplinary research using the field of energy studies as a vehicle. The successful candidate will possess a strong quantitative skillset and a demonstrated ability to problem solve.
Specifically, the Research Fellow will:
- Use web-scraping and textual analysis to generate a novel dataset
- Analyse the dataset using quasi-experimental methods
- Assist in the design and calibration of a choice experiment; and
- Make a significant contribution to the drafting of two research articles for submission to high-impact journals.
Please contact Associate Professor Terry van Gevelt ([email protected]) for any questions surrounding the position. The successful applicant will be expected to be based in Singapore for the duration of the 9-month contract.
QUALIFICATIONS- PhD in Quantitative Social Sciences, Computational Social Sciences, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake textual analysis and (Quasi-)experimental methods.
Applicants will need to provide a CV and a cover letter.
