Position Overview: We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Legal Translator specializing in Japanese to English translation. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing legal documents written in Japanese, translating them accurately into English, and ensuring that the integrity and legal nuances of the documents are preserved throughout the translation process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing a variety of legal documents written in Japanese, including contracts, agreements, court documents, and correspondence.
- Translating Japanese legal documents into English while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and adherence to legal terminology and conventions.
- Conducting thorough research and consulting legal resources as needed to ensure the accuracy and completeness of translations.
- Collaborating with attorneys and legal professionals to discuss translation requirements, clarify legal terms, and address any questions or concerns.
- Proofreading and editing translated documents to ensure grammatical correctness, stylistic consistency, and adherence to established standards.
- Maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion when handling sensitive or proprietary information contained in legal documents.
- Managing translation projects efficiently, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in both Japanese and English, with exceptional proficiency in written and spoken communication in both languages as you will be working with documents in Japanese and Japanese stakeholders.
- A bachelor's degree in translation, linguistics, law, or a related field. Additional certifications or qualifications in translation or legal studies are desirable.
- Proven experience in legal translation, with a strong understanding of legal terminology, concepts, and conventions in both Japanese and English.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to produce high-quality translations under tight deadlines.
- Strong research skills and the ability to effectively use legal resources and reference materials to support translation work.
- Proficiency in relevant computer software and translation tools, such as CAT tools (Computer-Assisted Translation) and terminology databases.
- Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information with integrity and sensitivity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
