Job Description

The Institute for Applied Learning Sciences and Educational Technology (ALSET) (to be renamed Centre for Embodied Learning & Living (CELL)) has an opening for a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer (Research Associate). As the Senior Embedded Systems Engineer of our research center, you will play a key role in developing innovative solutions that enhance embodied learning.


As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer at CELL, you will be a vital contributor to our research initiatives, specializing in the design, development, and optimization of embedded systems that support embodied learning technologies. Working in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, you will lead the implementation of hardware and software solutions, ensuring they align with the center's research objectives and contribute to the overall success of our research initiatives. You will report to the Director of the center.


The major responsibilities include:

  • Lead the prototyping and development of technologies that embody research insights, ensuring feasibility and scalability
  • Collaborate with researchers to understand the theoretical underpinnings of embodied learning technologies
  • Translate research findings into practical engineering solutions with a focus on real-world applicability
  • Engage with educators and educational institutions to understand needs and challenges
  • Customize and adapt embodied learning solutions to suit different educational contexts
  • Work closely with researchers to understand the unique requirements of embodied learning projects and contribute technical expertise to enhance project outcomes
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate progress and outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Masters in Engineering or equivalent
  • At least 10 years experience in designing Embedded Systems, Internet of Things, Wireless Sensors, and Digital Signal Processing
  • Knowledge of human-computer interaction (HCI) and user-centered design principles
  • Experience in developing high fidelity prototypes ready for field testing
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams and translating research findings into practical applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in Entrepreneurship
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
