The Centre for Sustainable Materials (SusMat) at the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, is inviting applications for a Research Fellow position in Prof. Ali Miserez’s research team. The role involves engaging in two key projects: 1) the application of peptide coacervates for nucleic acid delivery into cells, and 2) the use of peptide coacervates to enhance food safety through advanced detection methodologies. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experiment Design and Execution: Independently design and execute a range of lab-bench experiments, including the synthesis of novel peptide sequences and the in vitro delivery of nucleic acids. This role requires autonomy, proficiency in advanced cell culture techniques, and a commitment to producing accurate results.
- Biophysical Characterization: Employ techniques such as UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, and dynamic light scattering for the characterization of peptide coacervates.
- Scientific Writing and Regular Presentations: Actively contribute to the drafting and publication of scientific papers, effectively communicating research findings. In addition, the candidate is expected to regularly present data and results at lab meetings, demonstrating strong oral communication skills.
- Mentorship and Supervision: Guide and support junior researchers, including students, in their projects and in mastering laboratory techniques and scientific practices, thereby fostering their growth and development.
- General Laboratory Duties and Professionalism: Maintain exemplary laboratory practices and professional conduct, including meticulous lab notebook upkeep, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the maintenance of lab housekeeping standards. Embrace teamwork, assist peers, and adhere to university policies, promoting a positive and collaborative research environment.
