The laboratory of Antimicrobial Resistance and Drug Development at LKC is looking for a highly self-motivated individual to join us as a Research Officer. Our lab is interested in developing new screening assays for drug discovery and early-stage antimalarial and antimicrobials.
The job responsibilities include:
- Experience working with parasites (malaria) and bacteria (various human pathogens)
- Malaria and bacterial assay development and assay optimization for drug screening
- Target deconvolution in malaria and bacteria (understanding mechanisms of action and resistance)
- Design and conduct experiments including data collection and analysis
- Summarize and present the data in lab meetings
- Develop new research techniques and approaches
- Collaborative spirit with internal and external collaborators
- Perform maintenance of inventory and procurement of laboratory consumables
- Ensure safe technical practices and procedures
- Candidate must be willing to learn and feel comfortable working with various bacteria
- The candidate must be highly adaptable at working with different organisms.
- Candidate must be highly adaptable at working with different techniques.
- Assume laboratory management responsibilities including helping with grant management, budgets, safety, procurement and others.
The qualifications and competencies include:
- Bachelor Degree in Life Sciences/ Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field
- At least two years working experience in research
- Experience working with the malaria parasite
- Experience working with bacteria
- Strong molecular biology background and expertise
- Excellent at team work
- Strong integrity
