The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate (School Leadership, Qualitative Methods) at Director’s Office.
Project Title: 'Beginning principals practice of leadership learning'
Project Introduction: This study is a qualitative study of how first-time principals in Singapore schools navigate their early years of school leadership upon graduation from NIE’s Leaders in Education Programme (LEP) and appointment into their new roles as school principals. Specifically, how they cope with principalship demands during their first years and the relevance of their leadership learning into professional practice.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree from a reputable university in a relevant field
- Relevant research experience in qualitative research and analysis
- Strong interpersonal communication, listening and writing skills
- Able to work independent with minimal supervision
- Experience with research processes (e.g., IRB, RISE) would be an advantage.
- Experience with publications and related processes would be useful
- Knowledge and experience working in the Singapore education system would be an advantage
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, managing and executing project related tasks
- Conduct literature reviews
- Conduct interviews
- Transcription, coding and analysis of interview data
- Conduct research task relevant to project (e.g., research ethnics documentation, data storage) Developing procedures to ensure data integrity and quality
- Prepare presentations and publications independently
- Consolidate and write up research findings and reports
- Other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator
