Post Doctoral Fellow, Laboratory of Metagenomic Technologies & Microbial Systems, GIS

A*star Research Entities

We are seeking passionate scientists who wish to develop innovative methods in the metagenomic assembly field. Our lab is focused on leveraging new technologies to better study microbial populations and their impact on human health. In this context, our lab has extensive experience in metagenomic analysis and has been involved in numerous large-scale studies exploring microbe diversity and dynamics, as well as the development of numerous tools widely used in the field.

Recent improvements in the sequencing technology field offer unique perspectives for metagenomic assemblies, reducing the gap to the full genomic reconstruction of complex microbial communities that can be further leveraged for comparative genomic analysis. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment with unique access to novel sequencing technologies and a wide range of samples. Solutions developed during this project will have direct applications to ongoing and new microbiome research projects in the lab, particularly in studying antimicrobial resistance and skin diseases.

The Nagarajan Lab is based in the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) which is the national flagship program for genomic sciences in Singapore with a mission to use genomics to improve public health and national prosperity. Singapore is a highly cosmopolitan city-state at the crossroads of Asia with one of the highest standards of living in the world. The GIS provides an internationally competitive remuneration package and relocation assistance.

Requirements:

• PhD in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering/Genomics

• Strong analytical and programming skills (Python, C++, UNIX environment).

• Candidates with significant experience in assembly algorithms will be strongly preferred.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
