As a Barclays Discretionary Portfolio Manager, you will deliver a great experience for clients by providing first class service, managing investment portfolios, and supporting the overall investment process. You will be responsible for managing a book of client portfolios and ensuring timely execution of investment decisions to generate risk-adjusted returns that meet clients’ expectations and goals. You will also be an active participant to our investment decision making forums and process, liaising within the team and research specialists.

What will you be doing?

  • Demonstrating a thorough grasp of all nine investment asset classes and understanding of use of complex instruments in portfolios (e.g. derivatives)
  • Being a subject matter expert within several areas of investment practice (e.g. fixed income, equities) and leading the discretionary offering for Singapore
  • Being a member of the Global Discretionary Management team, contributing to the development and leveraging of Barclays best thinking on Discretionary Management
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Private Banking business drivers and value chain in a discretionary portfolio management business
  • Demonstrating sales performance in growing a team’s book of business and /or defence of existing business to generate revenue for Private Bank
  • Being a mentor to support less experienced colleagues to develop their knowledge and capabilities
  • Playing a main role in presenting to new clients to win new mandates, or existing clients to carry out review /defence meetings to build effective and trusted relationships
  • Providing significant technical and business input to Private Bank strategic initiatives (e.g. Change Programmes) as well as acting as a representative for the Discretionary business


What we’re looking for:

  • Private banking or wealth management background, with understanding of the institutional market, technical and product knowledge across asset classes and derivatives
  • Ability to establish Discretionary Portfolio Management operations in a new market including definition of policies, procedures, negotiation and ability to influence decision
  • Ability to influence decision-making within Private Banking Investments and the broader Private Banking senior management teams
  • Relevant academic background or related experience, and appropriate regulatory qualifications in Singapore or similar jurisdictions


Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Fluency in English with written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Additional language would be beneficial
