Compound Manager (High Throughput Screening), EDDC

The Compound Manager is responsible for the efficient handling and organization of chemical compounds within EDDC. This includes collaborating with cross-functional teams, maintaining an organized and well-documented compound inventory, and adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines. The Compound Manager also manages time and automation resources, serves as the primary point of contact for compound management, and develops and executes detailed scripts for all wet plating processes.

Job Description:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the DMSO stock compound collection and all incoming sample plating requests.
  • Support all screening projects in EDDC including storage and distribution.
  • Manage time and automation resources supporting all wet compound plating activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for compound management.
  • Timely Documentation of all compound handling tasks.
  • Develop liquid handler methods, troubleshoot, and perform basic maintenance.
  • Conduct process mappings, gap analysis, and develop executable plans of action.
  • Engage with screeners to design, develop, and implement custom fully automated processes to increase throughput and walk-away time.
  • Write and execute detailed scripts for all wet plating processes.
  • Conduct bi-weekly QC of all liquid handling instruments and compound stores.
  • Conduct annual QC of department compound collections.
  • Report monthly metrics to the team.
  • Create and verify the accuracy of all inventory files and plate maps available to the screening community.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in biological sciences, chemistry or related field
  • At least 5 years academic or industrial experience in biology or chemistry laboratories as a technician or research officer.
  • Experience with inventory management of samples or compounds, database software.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, demonstrated ability in establishing and managing research partnerships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to changing priorities
  • Experience in lab automation and liquid handling platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of the process of performing high throughput screening assays using microplates preferred.
