The Business Manager, Shipping Services will lead and have overall responsibility of the Shipping Department. The incumbent will oversee, control and direct Shipping operations, Disbursement Accounts operations, Shipping commercial operations. The incumbent will also develop and implement the Shipping Department’s strategic plans with the overall objective of operational and service excellence, income growth and profitability of Shipping Services which include Agency, Husbandry etc.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Development and Implementation of strategic plans for Shipping Services. Implement initiatives with the objective to income growth and profitability of shipping services.
- Oversee the administrative and operational matters of the department which include Disbursement Accounts (DA), Shipping Operations. Ensure performance of the respective areas are within agreed performance standards to ensure growing and satisfied customers.
- Oversee and be involved in Commercial strategies, implementation, and its related activities.
- Focus on Business development and pro-actively seek out new business opportunities whilst identifying opportunities for growth within existing businesses.
- Participate in bids, RFQ’s and commercial activities.
- Attend networking events and build industry connections with the objective to business growth.
- Assess and conduct feasibility on new and existing businesses.
- Manage departmental resources, financial budget, and control.
- Ensure good cash management which include effective monitoring and control of department expenses, partner effectively with Credit control team to ensure credits are effectively managed.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders (internal and external) which relate to Shipping services. Maintain relationships with prospective and existing customers and clients.
- Lead and supervise subordinates, ensuring they are motivated. Partner with HR if required on people matters.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in an equivalent role.
- Possess good working knowledge of Singapore ports and Maritime regulations.
- Possess commercial acumen and drive to develop new businesses.
- Effective communication and people management skills.
