Scope & Purpose
Laboratory Section Lead will be responsible for the daily operation of water testing lab and R&D lab to provide analytical services for Sembcorp’s water plants and external customer. Reporting to the Laboratory Head, the Section Lead will be leading a team of analysts and engineer and to ensure results accuracy, testing turn-around time, and compliance to ISO & regulatory requirements.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Manage lab operations to ensure accurate analysis of routine and ad-hoc samples and results release within stipulated time.
- Manage equipment availability, calibrations, and maintenance schedule. Liaise with vendors for troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
- Manage laboratory inventory and purchase of consumables, chemicals and basic equipment spare-parts.
- Manage routine testing schedule & work allocations for analysts and engineer.
- Lead the development of new / modified test method, including requirement to ensure compliance to ISO requirement (measurement uncertainty, verifications, etc.).
- Lead the preparation of new SOP & risk assessments (RA). Review and update existing SOP and RA.
- Responsible for the implementation of quality requirement in the laboratory to comply with ISO17025 and Company’s IMS (ISO140001 and ISO450001).
- Manage equipment SQC checks & record, proper documentation in lab, and ensure results traceability.
- Responsible for the area’s preparation for internal & external audit, prepare corrective actions for audit findings.
- Manage sample testing enquiries from external customers, prepare quotation and release of analysis report to customer.
- Provide orientation and training to lab analysts, engineer, and interns on analytical methods, quality requirement, and basic equipment maintenance & troubleshooting.
- Ensure good housekeeping and compliance to HSSE requirements
- Other duties as assigned by Laboratory head related to management reporting and update.
Major challenges
- Possess intermediate capability of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) functionality.
- Familiarity of working with cloud-based computing and digital tools (e.g. SharePoint, MS Forms, Power Automate).
- Possess a self-driven personality, capable to work in a fast pace environment, with the ability to multi-task and adapt to highly dynamic situations.
Qualifications
- Minimum Degree holder in Chemistry or other science / engineering related to Chemistry. Post-graduate degree will be a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years working experience and at least 1 year in a lead role in an analytical / R&D laboratory setting.
- Working experience in an accredited laboratory is preferred.
