- scheduling and running rehearsals
- communicating the director's wishes to the creative team
- managing and coordinating the stage crew
- managing the calling of cues for a show
- overseeing the show at every performance
- working closely with the director to determine the scheduling of all rehearsals
- communicating consistently with everyone involved to notify them of rehearsal times, meetings, wardrobe fittings and coaching sessions
- marking the dimensions of the set on the floor of the rehearsal hall
- ensuring performance venues, props and furnishings are in order for use by artists
- attending all rehearsals
- preparing rehearsal reports
- notifying the creative and production teams of any changes made in rehearsal
- recording all blocking, light, sound and set change cues in a master copy of the script called the prompt book
- working with the technical director to create a smooth and efficient plan for the stage crew to follow during set changes
- working with the technical designer to draw furniture and prop plans for more complicated sets
