Job Description
- Provides basic nursing care to the residents in the nursing home.
- Assists the State Registered Nurse in the delivery of nursing care such as:
· supervision of Nursing Aides (NA) and Healthcare Attendants (HCA)
· supervision and assistance to the rest of care team in the proper transfer/lifting of residents
· assisting residents in their activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, toileting, bathing, grooming and feeding
· promoting education of self-care and independence for residents, ensuring a sense of well-being
· ensuring good standard of housekeeping
- Carry out nursing rounds with the registered nurse.
- Ensure the proper delivery of nursing procedures such as dressings, instillation of eye drops, topical creams applications, etc.
- Assist in the administration of medications and tube-feeding under the supervision of State Registered Nurse.
- Checks, monitors and records residents’ vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and apex beat.
- Maintains accurate documentation of care given.
- Jointly work with the Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist/Physio-Aide to provide rehabilitative exercises for the residents.
- Guides the Nursing Aides in observing and recording of nursing care eg report any unusual observations and/or deterioration in resident’s physical condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Participate in the handling of emergencies (even if off-duty where necessary).
- Work as a team and respond to residents’ needs which include:-
· answering call bells
· ensuring residents are comfortable, dry and clean at all times
· doing rounds of the residents to check on their conditions
· Supervision and assistance in 2 hourly turning of total dependent residents
· serving and feeding the residents their correct meals/feeds
- Keep updated on nursing care by reading, attending talks, seminars and lectures.
- Co-ordinates with other departments such as housekeeping and maintenance to ensure a safe, clean and properly maintained environment.
- To be on rotating shift and on call whenever necessary.
- Any other duties as required by Supervisor.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing from a recognised institution
- Advanced Diploma / Post-Basic Certificate in Critical Care for positions in Critical Care
- Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Mental Health) preferred for positions in Psychiatric Ward
- Registered with the Singapore Nursing Board
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
